Battle Results

We had a great time and we hope you did as well. The crowd was responsive and all the acts were very supportive to each others performances.
GigNation and Best Buy would like to thank Mark Wolfson for Judging and talking to the Artists between sets. That was a long day of music. Some of you took the time to talk with Mark and get some direct feedback.
As you saw we were recording and filming the event. IF you would like to be included in the GigNation/Best Buy Store promotion please sign the attached release form. Without the release form Best Buy can not showcase your performance “in store”.
There is a provision by which Best Buy may want to produce a compilation (at a later date) of the” best of the GigNation/Best Buy Battle of the Bands” CD. This would be for sale and you would receive a “Favored Nations” percentage of the sales.
Favored Nations means that all bands would receive
the same equal share of the band royalty.
The split would be Best Buy receives 50% of the sale price of the CD and GigNation would receive 25% of each sale with those funds be used to facilitate more shows. 25% would be split between the bands on the Compilation.

The winners of the Best Buy/GigNation Battle of the Bands is

LEAVING STAFFORD – with their vocals, musicianship and excellent songs.

The Other Bands were talented…so much that we are holding a special wildcard/playoff. We are keeping Neil around for a couple more days and the second place winner will have the opportunity to record two songs with Mark, Neil and Rudy Records. We will also be awarding a third place prize of free membership with Regional CD.net and a waiver onto the Unsigned Artist program!!!

The five runners up who will compete in the online playoff are:

STONEWALL –

BLINDED BY RAGE

PRIDE FALLS

CREEPIN CADAVERS

AUGUST IS OVER

We will put a one song video of each band’s performance up on GigNation TV at www.gignation.com. Fans will view the performance and vote. (One vote per email) The Battle Judges will have the right to make a final determination of the second place and third place winners, but as they say…we give you what you want.
There were many great performances at the show and we would like to acknowledge Veronica Ballestini for filling a last minute spot and giving us a wonderful impromptu solo performance.
Paul David started off the show with some original folk/alternative songs. Blinded by Rage gave us a high energy performance matched by no other band that night. Once More did a fine job of presenting their brand of music and we enjoyed that immensely. The Wrong Inspiration gave us a taste of some of our favorite Beatle songs as well as a Muze song and originals as well. Pride Falls gave us some great covers as well between their original compositions with some very good guitar playing. The Creepin’ Cadavers were the other exciting band of the night with their Punk style and August Is Over receives special notice for the performance and songs. Tony Lee Thomas finished off the night with an excellent performance of some of our favorite cover songs and a few outstanding originals.
If you have any question please contact David Mech at 413-883-3471 or dave@rudyrecords.biz

Sincerely,

GigNation

Acoustic Battle gone electric

Well, it all started out innocent enough....members of Hated arrived sans instruments and began rehearsing on the porch. Leaving Stafford arrived and set up for the only (supposedly) electric performance of the evening.

They commenced to impress the crowd when musicians with guitar cases (electric guitar) cases began to fill the room. It was June Tuesday who graciously agreed to come up only two days before. Apparently no one told them it was acoustic night. (Did i forget??? "Well, my short term memory ain`t what it used to be, but i can still hold a grudge!!" -Bob Weir)

Anyway, I had promised Steve Piper, the guy in charge of the open acoustic Mike night that usually takes place, that no other electric bands would play.

Fortunately for me...not for him, his usual crowd didn`t show up after hearing about the battle. Steve was real cool and allowed June Tuesday to Rock Out !!!

Hated did their set and The Tony Lee Thomas Band ran into Josh, amazing drummer from the Suspectz (first week winners) who went home to get his kit. What happened next was magic....shoes came flying off, people started dancing, and Steve jumped on stage with the band for the last two songs. He knows how to pick up a base and he can sing !!! The Southwick Inn knows how to party !!!

It was one of the best nights in a long time !!! Leaving Stafford, June tuesday and hated are all going foward to the last round. Why? why not. They all stepped up and made a potentially disasterous nigh a huge success. That is what a local band with potential for success does !!!

September 11, 2008 The best Buy/GigNation battle of the Bands comes up to Northampton, Mass to the World War II Club at 50 Conz St. Doors open at 7:00 show starts at 7:30. Shatter This World will open up with Jennifer Hill www.myspace.com/jenhillband and Tony Lee Thomas Band following. This show is a benefit for Robert Lamica a soldier moving to Western Mass.

Lamica, a native of Northampton, Mass., was at Camp Lejeune and his father was hauling his son`s possessions back to Massachusetts, where the Marine and his wife will live when he returns from the Persian Gulf.

The stolen property included Lamica`s wedding memorabilia, his dress blues and Marine sword. Donations will be taken at the door.

Jennifer Hill and Tony Lee Thomas are both amazing songwriters as well as musicians.

"Tony Lee Thomas is played at the forefront of my household every day." -Annie Guthrie

This show is a brought to Northampton by Steve Connor and Northampton Veterans Services, and is part of the Best Buy Local band Program and best Buy/Gignation Battle of The Bands.

Bands can now sell their CD`s right in best Buy Stores go to www.regionalcd.com for more information and www.Gignation.com.

The finals will take place September 27, 2008 at a location TBA. First prize is a three song development deal with Springfield based Rudy records and producer Mark Wolfson (of Playtone/Epic and Stone Temple Pilots fame.)

The Best Buy program is a new and innovative way to promote local bands and the local music scene. Greg Goff of Best Buy states the program will include sponsorship of local bands and shows, bands will sell their cds right in Best Buy Stores and will be able to buy musical instruments and equipment at Best Buy stores across the country. *5 stores are slated to come on line with the program, the Pilot Store is right here in Hadley Mass.

And...theres more to come!!!

Battle Update/Best Buy News

Battle of The Bands at Southwick Inn this Week August 21 2008.

Due to the outdoor noise ordinances, and other assorted reasons, The Best Buy/GigNtion Battle of the Bands moves to The Southwick Inn, in Southwick, MA Same Time Thursday night 7:00

This week we are featuring Leaving Stafford from Stafford CT. These 16 year olds play their all original set for you at 7:00 pm sharp. Don`t miss em as they`re off to LA and New York for some industry showcases compliments of Best Buy and Gignation !!! Thats right we find all our bands on GigNation.com !!! And although the battle is a great thing, you don`t have to win to get to the next level in the business. Best Buy and Gignation are all about you.....Local Bands !!!

Oh Yea:

Due to the fact that at least one band was cut short by the venue`s management and the local police/noise ordinance.... and due to the fact they put a wedding shower in front of our stage delaying all the bands and cutting short their sets, and.....as all of the bands playing were unique and showed potential for development ....Best Buy and GigNation are advancing all three bands...The Wrong Inspiration, Creepin Cadavers, and Pride Falls to the finals !!!! You all deserve it.........Only on Best Buy/Gignation....Changing the way local bands do business
